Morrissey - You Are The Quarry
from Gasoline (summer edition 2004) |
Morrissey It's doubtful that Morrissey will drastically increase his fan base with this, his first full-length release in 7 years, but to the initiated this is a strong and confident collection from the world's favourite crooning curmudgeon. Although his trademark razor wit has been replaced here with simpler finger-pointing rants, there are still moments of exquisite lyrical flourish. Musically the CD picks up where much of "Vauxhall & I" left off, with producer Jerry Finn (of Blink 182 fame) taking on the Mick Ronson role. "Irish Blood, English Heart" is the pile-driving first single, while "I Have Forgiven You Jesus" and "The World is Full Of Crashing Bores" are more akin to Broadway ballads, with their slow melodic build-ups and fiery finishes. The smouldering finalé track "You Know I Couldn't Last", set against a lazy tinkling piano backdrop, hints that Morrissey may even be preparing his own unique style of Vegas niteclub act. I can't wait! |
