This was the cartoon that served as the genesis for Beat Street (you can see the TOO MUCH MUSIC wording in the background). In the original version of this illustration I had written the captions by hand (the was way before we were doing everything on computers), but I found it so illegible when I unearthed it years ago, that I retyped it. The Cure's album "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" had just been released and this toon accompanied the review we ran in the paper (which I was responsible for as well).
